Dr. Esther Metting: "How to involve non-digital patients in the digital healthcare transition: opinions from Dutch, Belgian, German and Scottish COPD patients"
Marc Oppelaar: "More than a decade of digital pulmonary care: our lessons learned for the future."
Dr. Esther Metting “I am psychologist and epidemiologist, working as assistant professor at the Data Science Center in Health (DASH) and the University of Groningen. Since September 2021, I am a member of the Young Academy Groningen. During the COVID-19 crisis I have evaluated the CoronaMelder and CoronaCheck applications for VWS and I have led the evaluation of the COVID-19 fast testing lane for education organisations in Groningen. I have also worked as project leader eHealth in a large health care organisation and I am active as board member or advisor in several patient organisations. These hands-on experiences are valuable in my daily work. Above that, my unique experience in clinical, behavioural and implementation science have led to a solid and multidisciplinary basis for health research.
In the past years I have coached and lectured numerous bachelor, master and PhD students with different backgrounds. In my role as project leader and chair I have learned to manage longitudinal (international) projects. My goal is to use my talent, experience and my passion for science to improve scientific knowledge in the field of eHealth.”
Marc Oppelaar “I am a medical doctor who started his PhD in digital health for pulmonary diseases during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. My research focuses mostly on the utility of digital health for cystic fibrosis and pediatric asthma. I also study Global Health Policy at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine so I usually try to apply a policy and health system perspective in my articles as I believe that these insights are essential to successfully implement and understand digital health.
Moreover, I am an active member of the Luchtbrug management team. Luchtbrug is a non-profit digital health application which aims to provide affordable digital health care to support people with pulmonary diseases and reduce outpatient visits. I am particularly enthusiastic about broadening the scope of Luchtbrug to adults with lung conditions such as COPD, interstitial diseases and asthma.”
